I don't respond to most tumblr questions unless I think I'm being clever. I also do not like radio while trying to work, for many of the same reasons you list. I will recommend the Etymotic ER-6s, which I have now owned for the better part of a decade. Newer alternatives exist. Isolation from your work environment may be what you need.

Oh, it's specific to tumblr questions. Comments are something else entirely. I felt guilty that I had the same feelings towards radio in the workplace but didn't respond to this post:
